The designer's own home, a 1954 mid-century contemporary abode, kept its charm in the kitchen by using the original metal cabinets, hardware and Formica laminate, complete with the original turquoise boomerang pattern. The initial concept was to install granite on the countertops and backsplashes but the uniqueness of this room set the stage for the color palette, continued in various areas throughout the house. Classic contemporary furniture such as the Metro rubber chairs featured in the Museum of Modern Art are a perfect fit around the custom designed table base and granite top with a special Knoll edge.
